Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on the proposed Selection Statement.
We are refining our approach after considering your feedback. As there was concern that the use of the term ‘assessment’ would remove the role and importance of appraisal in managing accountability and good business, we are intending to reintroduce the term ‘appraisal’ with some clarification. We are also looking to merge and refine the six principles into three, and remove the use of subjective, evaluative qualification which can complicate the decision-making process. Finally, we are likely to refocus the Statement on archival selection and clarify the inclusion of local authorities, as well as where the Statement fits within our internal programme of work to transform disposal. We will be in touch again in the new year about this piece of work.
Archives New Zealand will be back to work on Monday 7 January 2019.
