Earthquake update 6 December

Archives New Zealand is aware that there are a number of public offices who have been, or are still unable to gain access to their buildings due to the earthquake of 14 November 2016, and subsequent aftershocks.

Because of this, public offices may not be aware of the condition that their records and information are in, or they may be aware and need to approach their agency portfolio manager for disposal advice.

Because Archives staff were evacuated from our Mulgrave Street building on Thursday 17 November your usual portfolio manager may not be available. However some of us have been able to base ourselves in one or more of our Internal Affairs sites and can provide advisory services.

Therefore please continue to contact us with your enquiries only via email at We will respond to you as soon as possible.

Also, please note that we will not be able to schedule any transfers while the Mulgrave Street building is closed. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
